Goose

Undetermined age and breed

Goose is a pretty bay mare who appears to be a Standardbred/Morgan mix of undetermined age (we are guessing early teens). We believe she has been driven from the breeching wear marks on her rump, and may have been in a driving accident based on some deep wounds and scarring on her neck. This may have understandably traumatized her and she was put out as a a broodmare.  When we picked her up she was in full milk but no baby in sight.

Goose can demonstrate great curiosity with a soft eye, but as of now is barely able to be haltered and led and will visibly shut down and/or bolt if you get in her space. She is mentally broken and will need intense work to bring her back from the brink. We fully believe there is a well-trained, really nice mare in there somewhere. We have been working with her several times a day and have been able to touch and stroke her with hand and training stick and get her haltered with a great deal of patience, but she is very uneasy and distrustful.

Her eyes are bright and curious, but she has not lost her fear of humans. All we want for Goose is to be a happy and balanced horse who can stand for vet and farrier. Nothing else. She will be with us as part of our Sanctuary for the rest of her life.

Goose would love to be sponsored to help with her care and training until she has fully regained her trust and can be handled safely.

Trepi

24-year-old Arabian Mare

Stunning Trepi is the best nanny horse we've had. She accepts and bonds with new horses, especially the thin and weak, taking them under her wing while they adjust and recover.

Trepi CAN be ridden ever so lightly, but due to an old injury to her right knee can only handle things like ponying grand kids around. She is remarkably sound on her knee and can still run like the wind but will appear off at the trot.

Unfortunately, Trepi has been mostly bottom of totem pole and can be pushed off her feed easily. She has been thriving with the rehab horses and has finally found her place as herd leader.

Rea Im Kaream

"Barney"

2012 Chestnut Egyptian Arabian Gelding 14.1 hands

11 year old Barney came to us via surrender. His previous owner spent thousands trying to find solutions to his difficulties maintaining weight but found no major health issues or resolution.

He was very thin and appears to have major tooth and jaw issues. It's possible he has been kicked in the face at some point in his young life as he seems to have difficulties opening his mouth and his front teeth are all but sideways.

Our focus right now is to have the vet assess his mouth and get him back into good weight. He is gobbling up twice a day soaked hay cubes, grain mash and a flake or two of hay. We already see some weight coming back around his lower belly.

Barney would love to be sponsored to help with his feed and vet care until he has fully regained his weight and is ready for a new home.
